Preview of Kelly Pavlik vs. Will Rosinsky
By: Jon Campbell
In California on Saturday former unified Middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik (39-2) enters the ring with 27 year-old New-Yorker Will Rosinsky (14-1). At 30 years old Pavlik wishes to continue his comeback from a low point in his life resulting in admission to rehab for alcohol-related issues and attempt to return to the top of the sport against the younger, hungry challenger aiming to make a name for him.
Pavlik’s world class and relatively young trainer Roberto Garcia released a statement earlier this year claiming he and Pavlik sat and seriously discussed his life and what his intentions were, and that following this he stated that that Pavlik has put any problems behind him and that they are both fully committed to getting back in position to take the world title once again.
Since his comeback he has up to now kept his word, stringing together three victories, including two impressive TKO’s this year already. Prior in his career he has had number of successes which peaked when he won the unified Middleweight championship against Jermain Taylor, only two years after he dethroned the great Bernard Hopkins. He lost this to Sergio ‘Maravilla’ Martinez. Throughout his career the properties which have stood out about Pavlik have been his power and resilience. A whopping 34 of his 39 wins have finished inside the distance which is beyond impressive by any standards. He will hope to gain another stoppage on his way to redeeming himself to the fans and writers across the US and the world.
His opponent, Rosinsky, stands in his way and by no means wishes to grant Pavlik his parade back to the big time. He intends to do the opposite and crush the ex-champions dreams by defeating Pavlik and making his own star-studded path to greatness. He comes from an impressive amateur pedigree, winning 4 golden gloves NY titles, leaving me to believe he is a possible future contender at a higher level. Although he is only a 15-bout novice he has moved forward reasonably quickly in his career having two single loss against the undefeated Edwin Rodriguez.
To conclude, I have no reason to believe that Pavlik is not going to be close to his best tomorrow and that his problems have been resolved. Of course every new bout for him is a challenge and we will see in time if he can get back the glory he has had previously. His experience and power against the younger opponent should see him having Rosinsky out of there by the 8th round
