Dereck Chisora vs. David Haye Results

By: Tony Stewart

Round 1

David Haye is throwing with commitment. He is intent and much focused on jabbing at Derek’s defensive posture. Derek comes out behind a very high guard slowing up just short of the distance of connecting with a jab and looking to land heavy shots. Its clear both men are looking to land big punches early, Haye with his jab and hooks to the body and Chisora looking to connect with a clubbing roundhouse right hand. The round ends with a small effective flurry from Haye to win the round.

Round 2

Chisora coming back behind a high guard looking to throw a big bomb leads off with an overhand right. Chisora is the stalker walking Haye back without using effective punches. Haye is consistently punching with a variety of punches timing Chisora’s movement while not being confronted with much resistance. David Haye completely controls the round with effective jabs and hooks to the body.

Round 3

Pretty much more of the same with Chisora walking behind his high guard into a multitude of Haye counter punches.  Near the end of the round Chisora unloads a windmill left hook and right hook which score against Haye as the round ends. Haye still wins the round.

Round 4

The round opens with both men opening at a more measured pace at this point in the fight. The initial jitters have been shaken off and both men comfortable and have tasted each other’s punches. Chisora stalking Haye to the ropes unloads a quick left to the body followed by an over hand right which partially scores against Haye’s head. Haye spins off the ropes as Chisora is following up with a short left and is tagged with a strong straight right to the head from David Haye as he forces the action back to the center of the ring. Delboy then he retreats to the ropes and covers up inviting an onslaught of selective punches from Haye follow the best combination from him in the fight. Chisora whips off a few more hard punches to the chin of Haye; David responds back with one sharp hook to the head of Chisora and then goes back to working from behind his jab. Chisora’s best round of the fight. The round goes to Haye.

Round 5

Chisora continues to stalk attempting to land his strong overhand right club to no effect. Haye nails Chisora with a two-punch combination and easily slips Chisora’s right hand attack. Chasing Haye around the ring from side to side trying to land a vicious right hand when Haye lands a short crisp left hook followed by a sharp right hook and Chisora goes down. Chisora is up at 6 as the ref finished the count. The action resumes and they engage with a furious exchange, Chisora holds on trying to stifle Haye’s barrage of hooks and uppercuts. Haye breaks free and lands two crushing right hands against the chin of Chisora and down he goes again. This time Chisora regains his footing slowly and is clearly wobbly and the ref waves off the fight. David Haye wins by spectacular knockout.
David Haye fought a great fight tonight. He beat a very game challenger with a more than notable beard, who went the distance with Super Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko. He knocked out a man he gave up more than 35 lbs. to in weight after a year layoff. He used very effective boxing and landed his power shots perfectly. Whether, this win puts him back onto the landscape as a future opponent with a Klitschko remains to be seen, however this was a stellar performance by David Haye winning this heavyweight grudge match and capturing WBO/WBA International Heavyweight Championship.

David Haye improves his record to 26 wins with (24 Kos) with only 2 losses while Derek Chisora falls to 15 wins with 4 losses.
