After a disappointing fight night on FX yesterday, the UFC hopes to put on a spectacular showing in Brazil tonight as Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva (34-11-1 1NC) takes on Rich “Ace” Franklin (28-6-1) in a 190 lb Catch Weight rematch.

UFC 147’s main event has been a nightmare for Joe Silva. Originally scheduled to be a rematch for Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen, a visit to Rio De Janeiro by the UN caused an unusual chain of events that made the UFC move that fight to Ls Vegas.  The UFC then moved Wanderlei and Vitor Belfort up to the main event, but Vitor injured his hand in a practice session, thereby eliminating him from the fight. The UFC was able to have Rich take the fight on short notice and remade the fight to be a catch weight fight at 190 lbs.

Their first fight took place back in 2009, seeing Rich Franklin win by unanimous decision. Both of their efforts were rewarded by being named Fight of the Night. However it is a loss that Wanderlei detests. He believes he did more then enough to win the fight, but he will have his chance to avenge that loss.

Prediction:

In this match up of seasoned veterans, I have to pick Rich Franklin. While Wanderlei is riding high after his KO victory of Cung Le, his chin is still very questionable. Rich will look to test Wanderlei’s chin often in this fight. I see Rich dropping Wanderlei with a combo, then finishing him on the ground for a TKO win in the 2nd round.

Fabricio Werdum looks to take another step towards a title shot by going against a tough opponent in Mike Russow. Also on the card, The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil Finale match ups in the Feather Weight and Middle Weight divisions will throw down tonight as well. See below for full fight card.
