Fedor Emelianenko Retires after his Hall of Fame Career and victory over Pedro Rizzo

By: Anthony L. Gonzalez

MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko announced his retirement on June 21, right after knocking out Pedro Rizzo in St. Petersburg, Russia.

“I think it’s time, I’m retiring from sports. I still have the SAMBO World Championships. My family is the reason I will not be fighting again. My daughters are growing without their father, so it’s the right time to leave.”

Fedor will be remembered as one of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport. He was undefeated for over nine years and dominated the sport for most of his career.

Fedor went out strong winning his last 3 fights against Jeff Monson, Satoshi Ishii and then closed by knocking out Rizzo in just 84 seconds. Fedor retires at age 35 with an outstanding record of (34-4 1NC).

His legacy will be left up to debate. Many believe he is the greatest heavyweight in history and others believe he dominated MMA in an era when MMA was not at it’s best. But still Fedor will always be a legend of the sport and remembered forever.
