Cory Spinks vs Cornelius Bundrage Preview
By: Tony Stewart
Cory Spinks, no longer flying on the family lineage had carved out a small respectable history for himself, to include some of his biggest wins and losses. He’d finally regained a title and was now ready to repave that ‘expected’ road to glory. Until he ran into someone else equally driven and a pulverizing right hand.
Their first meeting was a spectacular show of dominance by Bundrage and bravery by Spinks as he was out matched from the beginning but hung tough for five grueling rounds before being stopped by an overhand right which sent him crashing to the canvass. He would beat the count but was waved off by the ref. Cornelius Bundrage, as yet another alum of the boxing reality series “The Contender”, had finally achieved his dream of becoming a world champion.
What K9 may lack to be considered an elite fighter, he more than makes up for with his dogged determination? You have to respect that and the fact that he is willing to face anyone regardless of reputation. That trait alone can set a guy apart to fans, regardless of his ring record.
Cory Spinks, to reclaim this title, is going to have to dig deeper than he has before. Not only will he be in against a champion who seems even hungrier but he will undoubtedly be battling the memory of having been stopped in their previous outing. Cory lacks the punch to keep the dog at bay but he possesses the boxing ability that can possibly take Bundrage out of his game. Spinks has the heart of a fighter and champion and I’m certain will bring his A game to this rematch.
Spinks will be stepping back into the squared circle coming off a good decision win against Sechew Powell. He’s got his momentum back for this second crack against Bundrage. It’s expected that he will have modified his game plan using more angles and better footwork and not be so immobile as the fight goes on and countering K9’s expected aggressive nature.
Ultimately I expect that the same outcome will happen in this fight as did the first one however, it might happen even quicker. I see a K9 KO of Spinks propelling him into the front-running for a shot at bigger paydays against some of the upper echelon.
