STRIKEFORCE MIESHA TATE VS. RONDA ROUSEY PREVIEW

By: MMA Writer Anthony L. Gonzalez

In one of the most anticipated female fights in history will take place this Saturday night in Colombus, Ohio at the Nationwide Arena. The main event features Ronda Rousey (4-0) 4 submissions, going up against the current Strikeforce Bantamweight Champion, Miesha Tate (12-2) 8 wins by stoppage.

This fight is very interesting because it features a rare combination of skill and sex appeal. These two fighters have very good martial art’s backgrounds and have some experience in modeling. Strikeforce has heavily marketed this fight and has used each of these women’s looks to bring extra attention to this fight. But, no one can deny the high level skill set that each competitor brings into this main event.

Miesha Tate, age 25, from Olympia,Washington is the current Strikeforce champion. Miesha Tate defeated Marloes Coenen by a submission last July in the finals of the Strikeforce Women’s Championship Tournament. Her last loss was against a very tough Sarah Kaufman back in May 2009.

Miesha Tate is a well rounded fighter who specializes in wrestling. She was a State Women’s Wrestling Champion in high school and won a national title at the World Team Trials in 2005. She is also a silver medalist at the World Female Grappling Tournament in 2008. She has also been a pro mixed martial artist since 2007. Her trainer is her current boyfriend and pro mixed martial artist, Bryan Caraway from Team Alpha Male.

Ronda Rousey, age 25, Venice, Ca is a World Class Judo expert and was a Bronze Medalist at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Ronda has also won Gold medal at a few other World Level Judo competitions throughout her career. She has competed in Judo all her life and was originally taught by her Mother. Ronda is inexperienced when it comes to Mixed Martial Arts and only has 4 pro fights in just one year of being a pro.

Many feel Ronda is being rushed up the ranks because she is very outspoken, beautiful and her excellent marketability. But, what is amazing about Ronda is her ability to finish all 4 of her pro fights under a minute.  Ronda won all her fights by submission. She uses the same move all the time and always wins by a armbar . Even in her 3 amateur fights, Ronda won by the same move. That armbar makes her a very dangerous opponent and a slight favorite to become the next women’s champ.

Personal Drama

During the promotion, Ronda Rousey has commented about Miesha’s personal life and has quoted I’m going to beat up Miesha Tate….and her boyfriend too” .

This was Miesha Tate’s Response:

“I think it’s just what I need, actually,” Tate said of Rousey getting on her nerves. “I think that I’ve been fighting for long enough that sometimes I get a little bit comfortable, that’s the truth of the matter. And when you don’t like someone, the idea of losing to them is just unbearable. Like, I cannot think of losing to this girl, it cannot happen. My pride is on the line here, people. You don’t understand. It’s not just winning the fight or keeping my title, it’s like, this bitch is not going to beat me, there’s no way this is going to happen. I think, for me, it’s just going to make it that much more exciting because you’re going to see a much more exhilarated me, you’re going to see a much more pumped and vicious, I think. I don’t want to just like fight this girl, I don’t want to just beat her, I want to really hurt her. I really do, I want to like mar her face if at all possible, that’d be nice.”

Personally, I feel this fight is a toss up. Ronda’s superior Judo Skills and her size advantage might be too much for Miesha Tate. But, since Ronda Rousey has never fought over a minute, cardio may become a major issue. Miesha Tate has excellent cardio and definitely has the edge when it comes to experience. The longer this fight goes, the more this fight will be in Miesha Tate’s favor.

This fight will be very interesting for a lot of reasons and is a fight that should not be missed.
