In an electrified atmosphere in Liverpool’s Olympia, David Price completed a 73 second annihilation of Big Bad John McDermott, scoring 3 knockdowns in that short time. The first knockdown was a peach of an uppercut, landed as John came in trying to land a big shot on Price as he was on his back foot. John wanted to test Price’s chin.
Price landed a thunderous right uppercut that caught John and dropped him. From that moment on the writing was on the wall. Price sensed the early finish and as soon as John was up, Price went to work on John by throwing a left and right hook combinations, down went John for the second time in the round. As soon as John was up, Price finished it with a one two as the referee stepped in to stop the fight to prevent McDermott from taking any more punishment.
I’m not sure what Price has in that right glove but I am sure it must be a hammer, as I have never seen anyone hit someone else that hard. The fight was a British Title Eliminator to face Tyson Fury but I don’t think Mick Hennessey, Fury’s promoter is going to let Fury within a million miles of Price. There is too much risk for Hennessey to allow Fury in the ring with a power puncher like Price.
So where does David Price go from here? Well, according to reports in the British press, American fans will have the pleasure to see him in March. Maloney is in talks with Lou DiBella and Kathy Duva in having David Price on a fight card in March. A possible site includes, Madison Square Gardens or an arena located in Texas is being discussed. This would give Price an American television exposure, that would do wonders for his American profile.
David Price fighting in America would not only help him but also give the American public a chance to see someone, who I believe has the skills and power to challenge either of the Klitschko brothers within 12 to 18 months. Watch this space as this guy can really bang and that’s what we all love to see in our heavyweights.
