SUPER SIX UNDERCARD : KELL BROOK VS. LUIS GALARZA

BY: ADAM MILLICAN

In the featured undercard bout, Kell Brook brings his undefeated record of 25-0 (17 KO) across the pond from Sheffield, England to square off with journeyman Luis Galarza (17-2 with 13 KO). Although Galarza is riding an eight fight win streak, he’s not fought any notable opposition and has only gone over eight rounds twice in his career. For Brook, who will be making his U.S. debut in this fight, this represents a ‘stay busy’ venture and what should be a safe opponent in his first U.S. bout. But at this stage of his career one has to wonder how many more bouts like this he ought to take before he attempts to step up his level of opposition. Nearing 30 years of age, the best he’s faced so far are Michael Jennings and Lovemore N’Dou. The former is a recognizable name only because he was a Miguel Cotto comeback fight. The latter, N’Dou, might have been a quality opponent at one time but he’s more known for who he’s lost to than who he’s defeated. And at the time of the Brook fight, N’Dou was 40 years old and clearly on the downside of his career.

Brook is at a crossroads in his career. Will he beat Galarza soundly and then line up a much better opponent for his next fight early next year, or will he go back to fighting B-Level opposition back on the other side of the Atlantic? Time is not on his side if he wants to be a force in the 147 lb division. He’s shown that he has some talent, displaying good movement, an ability to slip a punch, and he packs decent power. But none of that will be tested by Galarza. Prediction, Brook wins by mid rounds TKO and looks fairly good in doing so. The real question is, who’s next?
