Craig Johns’s earliest memories of boxing are of Prince Naseem Ahmed. His dad was a big fan and would often let him stay up late to watch it. Craig was drawn to his eccentricity and as a result, became a fan of boxing. His fandom developed during Joe Calzaghe’s career and he remains his personal all-time favorite boxer. Craig started a sports journalism course in 2010.
However, like most, Craig was focused on writing about football (soccer) until he decided to write a feature piece about a friend of his, who was a national amateur boxing champion. He found out that there was a gap in the North East of England for coverage of boxing. In January 2012, Craig created his own website covering boxing in the area while joining the Real Combat Media UK team as a writer. Craig Johns also works as a Middlesbrough FC reporter for the Gazette and Teesside Live.
