WBA Heavyweight Gold Rush: Bryan vs. Dynamite Dubois, Helenius vs. Hughie Fury, Wallin Returns

Regular World Boxing Association World Heavyweight champion Trevor Bryan, fresh off his 12 round split decision win over late sub Jonathan Guidry, on January 29, 2022, in an optional title defense, has been order to face World Boxing Association Interim World Heavyweight champion and number one WBA heavyweight contender Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois by July 28, 2022, in a mandatory title defense by the World Boxing Association.
Bryan, 22-0 with 15 knockouts, Schenectady, New York, was supposed to fight Mahmoud Charr twice, and twice Don King produced contracts, which were not sent to Charr to sign, so Charr was unable to get a visa to enter the United States.
Dubois, 17-1 with 16 knockouts, Greenwich, London, United Kingdom, won his last fight by knockout over Joe Cusumano on August 29, 2021, in Cleveland, Ohio, the same state where Bryan defeated Guidry, in Warren, Ohio.
Number three heavyweight contender Robert “The Nordic Nightmare” Helenius and number four heavyweight contender Hughie Fury will fight an eliminator bout to fight the winner of Bryan versus Dubois. Helenius, 31-3, with 20 knockouts, Mariehamm, Finland by way of Sweden, will fight Hughie Fury, 26-3 with 15 knockouts, Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom, the cousin of Tyson Fury. Although this eliminator bout is expected to take place by July 28, 2022 as well, the bout is considered unlikely.
Heavyweight contender Otto Wallin, 22-1 with 15 knockouts, Sundsvall, Sweden, will return on February 5, 2022, after one year of ring absence, will fight Polish 37 bout veteran Kamil Sokolowski, 11-24-2 with four knockouts, Barnstable, United Kingdom, at Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom. Wallin, who may yet get a shot at Fury at Dillian Whyte, will keep busy in the hopes of securing a Tyson Fury rematch. Mahmoud “Diamond Boy” Charr, 32-4 with 18 knockouts, Cologne, Germany, could fight Hughie Fury or Robert Helenius if one of them pulls out of the mandatory eliminator bout. Charr, age 37, has boxed less than two rounds in the past five years. Others, from Fres Oquendo to Shannon Briggs, have gotten caught shelved over the same WBA regular title.
