Spence Jr. vs. Garcia PPV Preview & Weigh-in Video

By Victor O. Garcia, Real Combat Media Head Boxing Video Reporter

Arlington, Texas (March 15th, 2019)— Since the announcement of the fight, boxing fans have been eager for this moment to come. Texas native and the IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr (24-0, 21 KOs) will put his title on the line against the 4-division world champ, Miguel Angel “Mikey” Garcia (39-0, 30 KOs) in a packed house at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The live PPV broadcast of “Spence Jr. vs. Garcia” presented by FOX Sports and Premier Boxing Champions, will begin at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT.

The champion Errol Spence turned pro soon after he represented the U.S in the 2012 London Olympic Games, and quickly grew within the ranks. Spence got his first world title shot back in May 2017 against former British champion Kel Brook, and stopped him in the 11th round. After winning the world title, Spence has successfully defended his title two times, against former world champion Lamont Peterson and unbeaten prospect Carlos Ocampo. Although none of those opponents are considered a danger in the welterweight division, Spence has done his part to call out the top dogs in the weight class. Due to scheduled fights, promotional issues, or whatever the case may be, fighters like Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter, or Terence Crawford have not been able to get in the ring with Spence. There is someone else in a lower weight class that showed big interest in Spence. His name is Mikey Garcia.

The Mexican-American champ is moving up in weight to try and capture a title in a fifth-weight class against the most feared and undefeated champion Errol Spence Jr. Spence is not only fighting against Garcia in his own back yard, but Spence is also the bigger and stronger man of the two. All odds play in favor of the champion.

Mikey Garcia is on a mission, and that mission is to become one of the all-time greats. He feels in order to become a “GOAT” he must take on challenges others wouldn’t dare. Garcia is aggressively pursuing to put together a legendary career and a victory over the bigger and stronger Spence Jr, will definitely put him on the right path. Mikey recently unified the IBF and WBC lightweight world titles in his last bout by scoring a unanimous-decision victory over Robert Easter Jr, back in July 2018. Mikey was the underdog in that fight against Easter, but he showed a dominant performance.

Both fighters have expressed how anxious they are to get in the ring and show who is the better fighter. I believe the experience and the boxing ring IQ will play a major factor in who will win tomorrow night, rather than the size difference. It will come down to the mental part of the game and I say Mikey Garcia has the advantage. I predict Mikey wins via decision.

Undercard

Benavidez vs Love

In the co-main event, former WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez (20-0, 17 KOs) will take on Detroit native J’Leon Love (24-2-1, 13 KOs) in a highly anticipated matchup. Benavidez was stripped of his title after testing positive for cocaine back in August 2018. Benavidez has not fought since February 2018 after successfully defending his title against Ronald Gavril, which he won via unanimous-decision and is looking to redeem himself. Love is coming off a loss against former world champion Peter Quillin, that took place back August 2018.

Nery vs Arroyo

Mexican undefeated former WBC bantamweight world champion Luis Nery (28-0, 22 KOs) will take on Puertorican former world champion McJoe Arroyo (18-2, 8 KOs) in a 10 round match-up.

Arreola vs Augustin

Former two-time heavyweight world title challenger Chris Arreola (37-5-1, 32 KOs) will open up the PPV telecast against undefeated Jean Pierre Augustin (17-0-1, 12 KOs) in a great heavyweight match-up.
