Ex-Champ Graciano Rocchigiani Dies at 54, Lawsuit Nearly Bankrupted The WBC

Berlin, Germany (October 5th, 2018)– Former world super middleweight and light heavyweight champion Graciano Rocchigiani of Berlin, Germany, whose lawsuit to have his World Boxing Council world title reinstated nearly bankrupted the WBC, has died in Italy at age 54 after getting run over by a car while taking a walk.




Rocchigiani compiled a career record of 41-6-1 with 19 knockouts between 1983 and 2003, and held the IBF Super Middleweight and WBC Light Heavyweight world titles during his 20-year professional career.




Rocchigiani is most famous for his 2003 lawsuit against the WBC, when he was awarded 31 million dollars from the WBC for improperly taking his world light heavyweight title away.

When the WBC announced it was going to dissolve and go out of existence, Rocchigiani settled for an undisclosed sum and settled the case. Rocchigiani retired in 2003 after losing a 12 round decision to Thomas Ulrich for the vacant WBC International Light Heavyweight title in Stuttgart.
