Tyron Woodley vs Stephen Thompson UFC 205 Is Announced
Los Angeles, CA (September 17th, 2016)– Tyron Woodley, the UFC welterweight champion, will defend the belt against the dangerous Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson at UFC 205 card in New York City on Nov. 12. He made the announcement on FOX Sports 2’s weigh-in show Friday, and sources confirmed that matchup is the plan for the two fighters.
Woodley (16-3) knocked out Robbie Lawler in the first round to claim the title at UFC 201 in July. Woodley 3rd straight wins and has won 5 of his last 6 bouts.
Thompson (13-1), has won seven straight fights, with his last a unanimous decision victory over Rory MacDonald on June 18. Wonderboy has earned three performance of the night bonuses in that span. His only career loss was against Matt Brown.
Tyron was adamant in fighting Thompson at first and wanted money fights with Georges St-Pierre or Nick Diaz instead of facing Thompson first, but neither fight was able to come to fruition.
