FRANKIE GAVIN AND SAM EGGINGTON BATTLE FOR BRAGGING RIGHTS IN BIRMINGHAM

British Welterweights clash on October 22.

Manchester, UK, (13th of September 2016)– Frankie Gavin and Sam Eggington will meet in an all-Birmingham Welterweight clash at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham on October 22, live on Sky Sports.

Eggington and Gavin were scheduled to meet for Eggington’s British and Commonwealth titles last October but injury to Gavin set their careers on different paths.

Gavin was forced onto the side-lines through issues outside the ring but teamed up with Max McCracken after spending and, like Eggington, returned to action in July in Leeds to set up their hotly-anticipated fight.

With Eggington desperate to regain his British title and Gavin plotting a route back to World title contention, there’s plenty at stake for both men – not least ‘Bragging Rights’ in the second city.

“I’m delighted that the fight with Frankie is finally here,” said Eggington. “I want to get that British title back and win it outright, and I know that I need a good win to get back into contention.

“I can’t wait to get in there with him. I’m not known for talking too much because I don’t think you should trash talk, but Frankie’s said a few things about me and it’s got my back up to be honest.

“I don’t mind him having a go at the way I box, but he’s said some personal stuff about me and that’s got me annoyed, and now I am going to punch him from pillar to post. There’s no reason to get personal, maybe he’s trying to do it to throw me off my game but it’s going to backfire on him. If he’s going to dig me out personally in interviews then he’s going to regret it on fight night because I’m going to do a job on him.

“I trained hard for the Skeete fight but I had the wrong mentality for the fight. I’ve learnt from that and it’s not going to happen against Frankie, it was a good time for me to learn that lesson.”

“This is going to be a massive fight,” said Gavin. “We know Sam can punch and he’s game. It’s going to be a great fight, and one I’ll win well because the minute he gets in with a mover he struggles.

“Sam’s a tough kid but boxing-wise he is technically poor. I’m very confident ahead of that fight.

“Once I beat Sam, I just want the big fights, that’s the stage of my career I’m at. I’m only 30 and I’ve still got another five or six years left in me and I’ve got a new lease of life with Max.”

Details on the undercard will be released next week.

Tickets will go on sale to Matchroom Fight Pass members at midday on Monday September 19 and on general sale at midday on Wednesday September 21 – tickets are priced at £40, £60 and £100 with VIP tickets priced at £150 – ticket links will be released on Monday.
