CHRIS WEIDMAN OUT OF UFC 181 AGAINST VITOR BELFORT

Las Vegas, NV (September 23, 2014)– The UFC 181 headliner, Chris Weidman (12-0) vs. Vitor Belfort (24-10) will be postponed because Weidman suffered a broken hand. Weidman initially hurt his hand 3 weeks before he successfully defended his title against Lyoto Machida. The fight will be rescheduled for February of 2015.

“I’ve just received the news that Chris Weidman broke his hand and, for what everything points to, our fight is gonna be moved to February,” Belfort wrote on his Facebook account.

“Everything happens for a reason,”Ray Longo said, who is Weidman’s head coach. “We’re going to get Chris healthy and then we’re going to steamroll this guy. Believe me.”

Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler 2 for the UFC welterweight title will now headline on December 8th at UFC 181, with Anthony Pettis vs. Gilbert Melendez for the UFC lightweight title will serve as the co-main event.
