Rosas’s fifth-round finish of Raoni Barcelos left the veteran motionless on the canvas and needing a stretcher out of the building, and the good news arrived hours later: Barcelos is stable, conscious and talking. Update aside, it capped an eight-finish card that also included a controversial decision in the co-main event and a first-round disqualification.
Main Event: Rosas Jr. Outlasts Barcelos in a Fight That Was Still Anyone’s Going Into Round 5
This was a genuine Fight of the Year candidate before the ending overshadowed it. Barcelos, 39 and fighting on a five-fight win streak, was ahead on all three scorecards heading into the fifth round, including a 10-8 for one judge in round four, putting him roughly three minutes from the biggest win of his career. Then, in a clinch exchange along the fence, Rosas swept him to the canvas. There was no clean strike that anyone could identify on the replay — Barcelos simply went limp on the way down. Referee Herb Dean waved it off immediately and doctors rushed in, checking his pulse multiple times as he lay motionless. He was stretchered out of the Octagon and taken to a Level 1 trauma center for a CT scan and evaluation. “I want everybody tonight to please pray for Raoni Barcelos,” Rosas said afterward, visibly shaken by his own win. Co-Main Event: Perez Outlasts Dumont in a Decision That Needed Security to End
The pre-fight animosity between Ailin Perez and Norma Dumont never quite translated into fireworks in the cage, but it boiled over the second the horn sounded. Perez controlled the pace with leg kicks and a late takedown in round one, weathered a more aggressive Dumont in round two, then pushed her to the fence and landed a body knee in the third before closing with a left hand at the buzzer. On the prelims, Yazmin Jauregui made an emphatic return from a two-year layoff, finishing Vanessa Demopoulos with a 20-punch barrage in just over a minute to grab the other Performance of the Night bonus, while Brady Hiestand, back from more than two years out himself, submitted heavy favorite Rinya Nakamura for one of the night’s biggest upsets.
