Miami, Florida (January 22nd, 2023)– Former World Boxing Council World Heavyweight champion Bermane Stiverne, age 44, whose career under Don King has been plagued by inactivity, lost his fourth consecutive comeback attempt in six years. In the main event of a Don King productions eight bout card at Miami Jai Alai on Saturday evening, January 21, 2023, former World Boxing Association World Heavyweight title challenger Jonathan Guidry scored a 10 round decision over the aging Stiverne in as nontitle bout, probably ending Stiverne’s career in the process.

Guidry, 19-1-2 with eleven knockouts, Hourna, Indiana, won his second consecutive comeback bout since losing a 12 round decision for the WBA World Heavyweight title to Trevor Bryan by 12 round decision in January 2022. Bryan subsequently lost his WBA title by knockout to Daniel Dubois. Guidry is now looking for a bout with former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua or WBA regular world champion Daniel Dubois, which would represent a step up in class for him.

Stiverne, inactive for two years, stood in front of Guidry and backed him up, but offered little or no offense for the majority of rounds. This enabled the defensive Guidry to throw more punches, and won seven to nine rounds on the scorecards of the three judges.

Stiverne, 25-6-1 with 22 knockouts, Las Vegas, Nevada by way of Haiti, stopped then heavyweight contender Chris Arreola in four rounds on May 10, 2014, at USC Galen Center in Los Angeles, California, to win the WBC title. Stiverne then lost his WBC title on a 12 round decision to Deontay Wilder on January 17, 2015, at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, the only time knockout artist Deontay WIdler got taken the distance before he was world champion. On November 14, 2015, Stiverne won a comeback 10 round decision of Derric Rossy at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, the last time Stiverne recorded a win in the ring.

Stiverne was then knocked out in the first round of a WBC World Heavyweight title rematch with Wilder in 2017, was knocked out by Olympian Joe Joyce in 2019 in a WBA Gold titular bout, was stopped by Trevor Bryan in a WBA World Heavyweight title bout, and then lost the decision to Guidry, the first time in eight years Stiverne went the distance in a bout.

Result: Jonathan Guidry Win 10 Bermane Stiverne, Heavyweights

Scoring: 100-91, 97-93, 97-93 for Guidry. Referee: Sam Burgo
