By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Las Vegas, NV (November 29th, 2021)– In a tragedy which has suddenly rocked the boxing world, University of Nevada Las Vegas student Nathan Valencia, age 20, has died after suffering a brain hemorrhage after fighting in the main event of a charity fight night boxing card staged off campus by Kappa Epsilon fraternity on November 19, 2021.

The intent of the event was good, the result of the main event a horror. There were no doctors, paramedics, EMTs, ambulances or medical personnel present when Valencia collapsed following the completion of the boxing match, as reported by KTNV television in Nevada.

A kinesiology student, Valencia died in an area hospital on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. The details of the event were just made public. Valencia was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, another fraternity not affiliated with the event he participated in.

Professional boxing referee Richard Steele, who reviewed video of the event, told KLAS television the match should have been stopped as soon as Valencia Valencia turned his back on the other fighter. The disorganized chaotic event somehow allowed the injured fighter to continue leading to the tragedy which followed. Valencia, with no boxing experience, collapsed a few minutes after the bout ended. In a statement, attorneys for Valencia’s family vowed a full investigation into the incident, saying mistakes were made and safety precautions overlooked. The illegally staged amateur exhibition was neither sanctioned nor approved by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which maintains strict safety standards and protocols as requirements at all athletic events.
