Los Angeles, CA (January 31st, 2021)– In the main event of an eight-bout Premier Boxing Champions card at Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles, California, on Saturday evening, January 30, 2021, International Boxing Federation World Super Middleweight champion Caleb Plant made the third successful defense of his title with a 12 round unanimous decision win over former champion Caleb Truax. The bout was minimally competitive but not close on the cards.
Plant, age 28, 21-0, 12 knockouts, Las Vegas, Nevada, simply outworked Truax for all 12 rounds, pitched a shutout against a mostly defensive former champion who appeared in top condition, but never tried to win. Plant claimed he broke his left hand early in the bout, but still did well enough right-handed to outland Truax. According to CompuBox, Plant landed 179 of 581 punches overall, to 47 of 389 punches landed for Truax). At age 37, Truax 31-5-2, 19 knockouts, of St. Michael, Minnesota, probably got his final opportunity to win a world title or regain a world title. There were few fans in attendance at the televised card, but he still put up a valiant losing effort nonetheless. Plant was land jabs and power shots, and Truax landed some punches here and there of little consequence. The fight was not of great interest.
