Smoking Marijuana Legally 2021 During Boxing Events at Nine Casinos in Atlantic City, NJ
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Atlantic, City, NJ (December 14th, 2020)-– There was a time when a positive marijuana test could disqualify a boxer from fighting, or disqualify his or her boxing result. The new year arrives, and 2021 is here, recreational marijuana smoking will be legal for the first time in the nine casinos of Atlantic City. Come January 2021, sports fans and boxing fans will probably have the opportunity to smoke marijuana legally in the casinos of Atlantic City. They smoke it anyway. What goes for smoking pot in New Jersey, Atlantic City, and the Atlantic City casinos is not what is going on in Nevada casinos, even though pot smoking is legal in the State of Nevada.
While alcohol and tobacco have been allowed in all but nonsmoking rooms in Atlantic City, New Jersey, marijuana smoking has long been tolerated, legal or not. New Jersey voters overwhelmingly approved recreational marijuana on the November 2020 ballot. The State of New Jersey’s recreational marijuana regulations has not been finalized. The Casino Association of New Jersey does yet not have an official statement or position on the subject. However, the sights of Atlantic City also come with smells, and nobody has been busted for smoking pot at the card table, or while playing craps or roulette. Lighting up a joint in Atlantic City has been treated the same as lighting up a cigarette for years. Marijuana smoking remains illegal under federal law. While states make both recreational and medicinal distinctions, casino distinctions are also a separate and distinct entity. Recreational marijuana smoking has been legal for three years in Nevada, but it is not allowed in Nevada casinos, a stark contrast to the tolerant Atlantic City’s casinos. Nevada doesn’t allow marijuana smoking in hotel rooms or public places, though one can privately.
Federal marijuana policy could be drastically affected by the presidential administration in power. The House of Representatives has voted to decriminalize marijuana at the Federal level. If the Democrats win both Senate runoff seats in George in January 2021 and the Democrats gain control of the Senate, this could enable the bill to clear the Senate and be signed by President Elect Joseph Biden. Incoming Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra has supported cannabis reform. However, if the Republicans retain control over the Senate after the January runoff elections, the decriminalization of marijuana bill will probably not pass. The next three weeks, and the policies of the incoming Biden administration, will influence Federal policy. Individual states, towns, cities, hotels, casinos, restaurants, and public places still have input into what policies they wish to establish and abide by. What works for the geese in Atlantic City, is not the way the geese are flying in Las Vegas. The senate seat of vice-president elect Kamila Harris will have to be filled after she is sworn in as vice-president, also a factor.
