Las Vegas, NV (March 26th, 2020)– According to promoter Bob Arum and Top Rank, the originally scheduled July 18, 2020, world heavyweight title trilogy bout between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder has been postponed until at least the Fall of 2020 at MGM Grand’s Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Arum, Fury’s co-promoter with Frank Warren, has not stated an official rescheduled date for the mega bout, at MGM Grand, which theoretically would headline another projected joint pay-per-view televised event between ESPN ( which represents Fury) and Fox Sports (the broadcast outlet for al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions which currently co-manages Wilder).
Arum told ESPN “Everybody has to take a step back. Boxing is not isolated. It’s part of what’s happening in the world. Possibly the fight will be in early October (2020). Al and his people are in touch with us all the time on this. We see things the same way. We’ll be very, very cautious moving ahead. Pray this will be over at a particular time, and we will be able to make smart plans. Nobody has ever experienced anything like this before.”
Fury, ‘The Gypsy King’ 30-0-1 with 21 knockouts, Wilmslow, Cheshire, United Kingdom, and Wilder, ‘The Bronze Bomber’, 42-1-1 with 41 knockouts, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, will just have to join the rest of boxing and professional sports, which is currently on indefinite hiatus under the COVID-19 Novel coronavirus pandemic is resolved. Much of the world remains in restricted isolation until such time as the spread if COVID-19 is resolved.
