Detroit, MI (November 24th, 2019)– In the main event of a nine bout boxing card at Detroit’s MotorCity Casino Soundboard on Friday evening, November 22, 2019, promoted by Carlos Llinas CLIP Promotions, Taylor ‘Machine Gun’ Duerr of Detroit, Michigan went to 10-0-2 with seven knockouts with an eight-round unanimous decision over Neller Obregon, to win the vacant North American Boxing Federation Junior Light Heavyweight title.

Obregon, 13-3-1 with eight knockouts, Baytown, Texas by way of Columbia, had a good first round, winning it on the Real Combat Media scorecard but swinging a bit wide and wild, while Duerr felt his opponent out. Duerr came back, dropping Obregon with power head and body sot combinations near the end of round two. Obregon looked done, and Duerr prematurely raised his hands in victory. Duerr was ahead on all scorecards from that point forward, but Obregon had a heart, and came to Detroit to try to win.

Obregon changed his game plan from round three onward, using a tight defense and frustrating Duerr with solid overhand counter rights which scored. While Duerr landed his jabs with consistency to win rounds two, four, six and seven, Obregon appeared to outwork him in rounds one, three and five, though five was a closer round. Obregon clearly won round eighth and final round as Duerr took the round off.

With this win, Duerr put himself in a position to either defend the NABF Junior title and/or challenge for the NABF Light Heavyweight regular title in 2020 against the current titleholder, Alfonzo ‘El Tigre’ Lopez, 32-3 with 25 knockouts, Huntsville, Texas. Lopez, a former WBO NABO light heavyweight titleholder, won the vacant NABF regular title by 10 round unanimous decision over Denis Grachev on November 16, 2019, in Conroe, Texas.

Derick Miller KO 3 Jesse Walthers, Cruiserweights (0:51) Preliminary Bout to Main Event

Miller dropped tough Walthers twice in the second round with body shots, then closed show.

Darryl Cunningham TKO 3 Alexis Hloros, Cruiserweights (2:11, Towel Thrown in Ring)

The Hloros corner threw in the towel during round three, and Hloros went crazy. Hloros was bleeding from a cut off the corner of the right eye, but appeared to be fine otherwise.

Cunningham was starting to catch him with some heavy power shots, though. The real story was Cunningham, normally a Super middleweight had to take this bout at a higher weight as his scheduled opponent pulled out, and Hloros took this bout on last minute short notice. Cunningham, interviewed after the bout, stated he would never fight at cruiserweight again, echoing the same sentiments of Detroit’s Taylor Duerr, who fought and drew with Pittsburgh’s Lyubomyr Pinchuk on Carlos Llinas’ last card over 10 rounds boxing in the wrong weight class.

Cunningham, 43-9 with 19 knockouts, at age 45, has now won 10 bouts in a row. The best  possible bout for Cunningham next is 43-16-1 Lolenda Mock of Aarhus, Denmark by way of The Congo, who won the vacant International Boxing Association World Super Middleweight title in May 2019 by 12 round decision over Mateo Damian Veron on May 18, 2019, in Denmark. At age 47, Mock would be the perfect world title match for promoter Carlos Llinas in a main event featuring Cunningham in 2020.

Kenyell ‘Boom’ Rouser of Pontiac, Michigan wins 40-35 across the board on all scorecards.
