How Bout That! James Assassin Tennyson KOs Unbeaten Ward, Wins EBU and UK Titles
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
James ‘Assassin’ Tennyson has won the biggest bout of his career. The Belfast, Northern Ireland super featherweight, 22-2 with 18 knockouts, came off the canvas in the second round to knock down and knock out 19-0-2 Martin Joseph Ward of Brentwood, Essex, United Kingdom.
Tennyson retained his World Boxing Association International Super Featherweight title, and also won the British Commonwealth and European Boxing Union Super Featherweight titles
Ward dropped Tennyson in the second round after two vicious hooks to the body which took Tennyson’s wind. Tennyson got up as the bell rang. Tennyson began coming on strong in round four, and Ward, repeatedly trying to hit behind the head in clinches, ran out of answers. Tennyson began grabbing Ward in a reverse neck headlock to prevent him from rabbit punching. Tennyson began landing power head shots, and Ward, whose arms and defense was wide and loose, came apart at the seams.
Tennyson drove back into the ropes with overhand right power shots, timing him perfectly, and sent him to the canvas. Ward had his right arm on the ropes, and got up. As the bout continued, Tennyson dropped his mouthpiece and picked it up with his gloves, and moved in for the kill. Ward went down and out from further head power shots, mostly because his legs were gone, and he could not get up.
