Filipino Surprise! Beast Pumicpic Wins 12 Round Decision Again in Japan, Retains WBO
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Tokyo, Japan (April 13th, 2018)– Beyond Manny Pacquiao, it has been said Filipinos always get a raw deal when they travel to fight in others countries, particularly in Japan, Australia, and Thailand. It is never an easy road for the aspiring boxer who has to fight on another promoter’s card on the road.
Featherweight Richard ‘The Beast’ Pumicpic of Manilla, Philippines, clearly has no respect for Japanese promoters and Japanese fighters, but to go into Tokyo, Japan twice in a row, and twice in a row win World Boxing Organization Asia Pacific title bouts over favored Japanese featherweight fighters, is pretty extraordinary indeed.
Pumicpic, fighting again in Korakuen Hall in Tokyo on Friday, April 12, 2018, took 9-0 Japanese prospect Yoshimitsu Kimura to the cleaners. Kimura, Vivencio Ursia, Nattaphong Panpaew, and Joe Noynay are among the unbeaten fighters Pumicpic has beaten.
Fighting nonstop exchanges of hard punches in a telephone booth, the strong and aggressive Pumicpic had heart, speed and stamina, which proved too much for the Yoko Gushiken trained Kimura. More interesting is Pumicpic took pieces out of 33 win Japanese featherweight contender Hisashi Amagasa to win a 12 round decision and the WBO vacant title last September. After laying waste to Japan’s featherweight division, it now appears unlikely WBO regional champion Pumicpic will be invited back to Japanese anytime soon.
Result: Richard Pumicpic Win 12 Yoshimitsu Kimura, Featherweights
Scoring: 116-112, 116-112, 115-113 for Pumpicpic
Pumicpic retains the World Boxing Organization Asia Pacific Featherweight title
Referee: Katsohiko Nakamura
For the second time in a row, in the same ring, with the same referee, Filipino featherweight Pumicpic wins a World Boxing Organization Asia Pacific 12 round titular decision on the road in Japan. On September 29, 2017, Pumicpic decisioned Hisashi Amagasa by scores of 117-111, 115-112, 115-113. One Japanese judge, Mekin Sumon, judged both bouts, and scored Filipino featherweight Pumicpic the winner BOTH times.
