49-0 WBC Minimumweight Champion Chayaphon Moonsri, Rocky Marciano Nobody Knows

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Rocky Marciano and Floyd Mayweather Jr., watch out. 49-0 World Boxing Council Minimumweight World champion Chayaphon Moonsri is only 32 years old, and still winning big time. Moonsri has never fought outside of his native Thailand, so he is not well known by the boxing establishment.

A WBC Youth, WBC International, and WBC World Minimumweight champion who has won nine consecutive minimumweight world title bouts. Moonsri, AKA Wanheng Menayouthin, who won the WBC world title in 2009 over Oswaldo Novoa, has actually fought in 30 different WBC regional and world title bouts, probably some sort of record. He won the vacant WBC Youth Mimimumweight title in 2007 at age 22 in only his third pro bout.

16-0 Thammanoon Niyamtrong, also from Thailand, AKA Knockout CP Freshmart, holds the WBA World Minimumweight title and also previously held the WBC Youth Minimumweight title. Niyamtrong is another Thai world champion who has never been seen outside of Thailand. He will defend his WBA minimumweight world title in December 2017 against Filipino challenger Toto Landero. As yet, no unification bout for Moonsri and Niyamtrong has been proposed. Moonsri, like Niyamtrong, is still in need of international promotion and exposure. With only 17 knockouts in  his 49 wins, for sure, Moonsri isno Rocky Marciano, but then again, there is no comparison between heavyweight and minimumweight which is the lowest weight. Moonsri has gone 10 rounds or more 22 times in his career, so he is a fine technical boxer. Marciano only went the distance in one title bout, his first 15 round meeting with Ezzard Charles. Moonsri is now 32 years old, the same age Marciano was when he retired, about the only thing they have in come besides their mutual 49-0 records. Marciano fought in London outside of the United States, while Moonsri, who has never fought outside of Thailand, has been the benefactor of some questionable decisions to retain his WBC title.
