Dawejko vs Mansour: Kaboom Heavyweight Fight of the Year
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Philadelphia, PA (May 1st, 2015)– Promoters Russell Peltz, Brittany Rogers and Joe Hand will present an action packed seven bout card at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia on Friday evening, May 8, 2015, televised by USA ESPN2 and Hungary DigiSport. Heavyweights Amir Mansour and Joey Dawejko will slug it out for ten rounds for the vacant Pennsylvania Heavyweight title. Given the atomic bomb power shots thrown by Dawejko and Mansour, the bout is unlikely to go the distance, one way or the other.
Mansour, 42, is a southpaw with a record of 21-1 with 16 knockouts, from Wilmington, Delaware. Mansour was inactive from June 2001 to August 2010 due to problems with the law, but has made a spectacular jumpstart to his rejuvenated career. On the comeback trail, Mansour has defeated Jason Gavern, Maurice Harris, Epifanio Mendoza, Kelvin Price and Fred Kassi.
Dawejko, 24, now 14-3, seven knockouts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as won six consecutive bouts since being released from his contract from the now defunct Boxing 360. Dawejko has won eight round decisions over Mark Rideout and DerricRossy, while scoring four consecutive first round knockouts over EnobongUmohette, Rayford Johnson, Yohan Banks, and David Williams.
The bout is predicted to end in a ten count knockout. The boxer who executes the superior power shot game plan and lands with greatest effectiveness will win, but a one punch knockout or a two punch combination knockout is also possible. Dawejko is hot at the moment with knockout power, but Mansour is an opponent in a different class.Dawejko has never gone ten rounds, but stamina is not considered as a factor here. Both combatants will be ready to do battle in what could prove to be the heavyweight fight of the year.
In the preliminary bout to the main event, middleweight DeCarlo Perez is favored by eight round decision over faded Jessie Nicklow, 24-5-3 with eight knockouts, Baltimore, Maryland. In his last seven bouts of eight rounds and ten rounds duration, Nicklow has won only one of those bouts. Perez, 13-3-1 with five knockouts, Atlantic City, New Jersey, has credible stoppage wins over Tyrone Brunson and Shamone Alvarez and is a fighter on the way up. Perez has won six of his last seven bouts scheduled for eight rounds.
In preliminary bouts, super lightweight veteran Ryan Belasco, 18-6 with three knockouts, Wilmington, Delaware, is favored by stoppage over David Gonzales, 5-0-1 with one knockout, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Belasco is a ten round fighter, while Gonzalez is a four round fighter who has beaten only one opponent with a winning record. Rising 7-0 super welterweight prospect Ismael Garcia of Vineland, New Jersey is favored by six round decision over 2-4 Ohio journeyman Tommy Ayers.
