Robert Helenius Returns in Estonia, Nordic Nightmare is Back in Heavyweight Mix

By Robert Brizel, Head RCM Boxing Correspondent

Tallinn, Estonia (March 22, 2015)– After a two year layoff, heavyweight contender Robert Helenius, 31, also known as ‘The Nordic Nightmare’, returned after a two year layoff this past Saturday night, March 21, 2015, with a first round stoppage victory which has raised more questions than answers.

It is not known if Helenius, now 20-0 with 12 knockouts, Stockholm, Sweden, had solved his management issues prior to his stoppage of Andras Csomor, 11-5-1, Budapest, Hungary, at 1:02 of the first round after knocking third tier fighter Csomor down and closing the show quickly at Tondiraba Ice Hall, in Tallinn, Estonia.

Csomor has never won outside of his native Hungary, and one of Csomor’s losses was to Hungarian heavyweight champion Zoltan Petranyi. The now 48 year old Petranyi, 51-21 with 16 knockouts, will face 43 year contender Shannon Briggs, 57-6-1 with 50 knockouts, in a scheduled 10 rounder on March 27, 2015 in Panama City, Panama.

Perhaps Helenius and Briggs should fight each other if they want serious consideration for a world title opportunity and a payday against Wladimir Klitschko. Helenius has knocked out Samuel Peter and decisioned Dereck Chisora. Meanwhile, duck hunter Briggs is two for four against main event opposition in the past decade (KO 7 Ray Mercer, TKO 12 Siarhei Liakhovich, L12 Sultan Ibragimov, and L12 Vitali Klitschko). Briggs has consistently made noises in his recent comeback after a four year layoff, but still will not fight a main event opponent to earn the world title opportunity.
