Atlantic City News: Taj Mahal Open without Poker, Billionaire Carl Icahn Takes Over
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Atlantic City, NJ (February 15, 2015)– The Trump Taj Mahal Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, which has featured boxing shows in the past, will close its 48 poker rooms for renovation on Sunday February 15, 2015, and will reopen them with a new design and game plan in the Summer 2015.
The good news is the Trump Taj Mahal will remain open, with the Trump name or not. Billionaire businessman Carl Icahn is in the process of acquiring the Trump Taj Mahal from Trump Entertainment Incorporated in return for 268 million dollars in debt the company owes him. Icahn has put up 20 million dollars to keep the casino open while it emerges from bankruptcy, sufficient to keep The Taj Mahal open through the end of 2015. The Taj Mahal was losing 10 million dollars a month with poker. Icahn figures with a change in operating style, including poker operations, The Trump Taj Mahal Hotel and Casino can be turned around. Since the sale is in progress, it cannot be called the Icahn Taj Mahal just yet. However, unlike The Revel, The ACH Hilton, The Trump Marina, Showboat, and Trump Plaza, The Taj Mahal will evidently survive in Atlantic City.
