Bryant Cruz Featured on New Legend International Fight Night Thanksgiving Card

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

New York, NY (November 18th, 2014)– Promoters Kevin O’Sullivan and Felipe Gomez of New Legend Boxing will present an exciting nine bout card of boxing at Resorts World Casino Aqueduct Raceway in Jamaica Queens, New York, on Friday evening, November 22, 2014. A 10 round lightweight bout main event pits lightweights Jonathan Maicelo and Jonathan Acosta.

Maicelo, also known as ‘The Cobra’ and ‘El Depredador’, age 31, 21-1 with 12 knockouts, Callao, Peru, now hailing from North Bergen, New Jersey, won the World Boxing Council Silver Lightweight title in his last outing, a 10 round split decision win over Art Hovhannisyan in July 2014.

Philadelphia fighter Acosta, age 36, also known as ‘Aguacento’, 29-7-2, 23 knockouts, is originally from Venezuela. He won the World Boxing Association World Lightweight title by knocking out 26-0 Urbano Antillon in the ninth round in 2009, and defended the WBA title with a sixth round knockout over 25-0 Paulus Moses in 2010. He lost his WBA title to Brandon Rios in 2011. Four out of Acosta’s last five fights have gone into the tenth round, so look for a long drawn out technical fight. Maicelo is predicted to win by decision in 10 rounds. Look for Acosta to come into New York City headhunting for a knockout, his only chance at this point in his career.

In the eight round preliminary bout to the main event, super featherweight Bryant ‘Pee Wee’ Cruz, 12-0, six knockouts, Port Chester, New York, is predicted to win by knockout in two or three rounds over Engelberto Valenzuela, 9-3, three knockouts, Sonora, Mexico. Valenzuela’s nine wins are over fighters with losing records in Mexico. However, three unbeaten fighters with a combined record of 36-0, Ryan Martin, Felix Verdejo, and Carlos Ocampo, all exposed his padded record, and knocked out Valenzuela in the first round.

In a six round welterweight bout, 4-1 Treysean Wiggins will have his hands full with hot and cold Jason Thompson, whose 5-7-4 record has hard experience, including Sadam Ali, Steve Martinez, Frank Galarza, and Boyd Melson. Thompson decked unbeaten Charles Natal face first in a bout in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania covered by Real Combat Media in July 2014, and has drawn four times in his last eight bouts against favored promoter’s fighters. Look for this fight to be a toe to toe crowd pleasing barnstormer.

Inother six round bouts: 4-0 light middleweight Chris Galeano is favored over 1-0 Villi Bello, and 6-2 super featherweight Allan Phelan is favored over 4-7-2 Angel Albelo. In four round preliminary bouts: 3-0 middleweight Devaun Lee is favored over 1-0 Obafemi Bakari; welterweight Jose Miguel De La Rosa is favored over 0-4 Mack Babb; 4-1 light middleweight Renee Ruiz is favored over 1-3 Ismael Aulet; and debuting welterweight Noel Murphy is favored over 1-3 Anthony Smith.
