Robert Brizel’s 3 Dumbest Fights of the Week
By Robert Brizel, Head RCM Boxing Correspondent
Dumb Fight Number One: Sander Silgado versus Rakhim Chakhkiev
In a no-win situation, Silgado broke contract with Havoc Boxing and took a fight in Moscow, Russia, fifteen pounds over his cruiserweight limit, losing to RakhimChakhkiev in 12 rounds, and more importantly, losing his WBA, WBC and WBO world rankings.
Dumb Fight Number Two: Hasim Rahman versus Anthony Hansen
Two years after losing to Alexander Povetkin in a WBA world title fight, former world heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman, age 41, traveled to New Zealand to fight in a Super 8 heavyweight tournament. Rahman, 50-8-2, lost to 3-2 Anthony Hansen of New Zealand in a four rounder. Adding to the shameful loss, Hansen lost his previous bout to a fighter with a record of 0-10. Hasim Rahman should retire while he has his faculties, although his senses are questionable after a loss like this. Natural talent never beats hard work. We knew.
Dumb Fight Number Three: Alonzo Butler versus Brice Ritani-Coe
After six months inactivity, heavyweight contender Alonzo Butler traveled to New Zealand to fight New Zealand’s 3-2-1 Brice Nitani-Coe in the Super 8 heavyweight tournament. Coe, who could not beat a fighter with a record of 3-5, nonetheless beat the 30-2-1 Butler in a four rounder. Butler is-all of a sudden-at the end of his career. Talking finito with this loss. He’s done.
