By Robert Brizel, Head RCM Boxing Correspondent- Ringside
Reading, PA (December 2, 2013)–World Boxing Association world number ten ranked heavyweight contender Travis Kauffman has a date with destiny-and ESPN2-in January 2014. Kauffman, age 28, now 27-1, 20 knockouts, Reading, Pennsylvania, knocked journeyman Jason Barnett in 40 seconds of the first round in the main event of an eight round amateur and professional card on Saturday evening, November 320, 2013, at Santander Arena in Reading, Pennsylvania.. Barnett was knocked down three times with body shots. Barnett, 39 years old, now 14-15, 7 knockouts, Clearwater, Florida, was a late substitute for Miguel Quezada, who failed to provide medicals and was not cleared to fight. The main event was broadcast on Gofightlive.TV, with additional coverage from channel 69 in Reading, Pennsylvania.
Future heavyweight names under consideration in the Travis Kauffman camp include DerricRossy and Bowie Tupou. Travis will need to fight a bigger name for his pending10 to 12 round ESPN2 television main event showcase to happen next year. Clearly Kauffman is worthy of better opposition. A rematch with Tony Grano in 2014 could be another possibility if Grano wants a TV fight. Deontay Wilder, Bryan Jennings and Andy Ruiz Jr. would be golden American marquee names for Travis Kauffman to fight-if he wants them.
Travis Kauffman, now represented by Greg Cohen Promotions, will fight an opponent still to be named. Currently ESPN2 has two scheduled January dates: at Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota on January 3, 2014; and Richard J. Codey Arena, West Orange, New Jersey, on January 31, 2013. Given Barnett’s quick exit, Kauffman could be a candidate for the main event of one of them. According to his father and trainer Marshall Kauffman, Travis will be right back in the gym on Monday, December 2, 2013. According to Travis, who has a wife and five children to feed, he is focused for his next bout.
