Viva Downtown Brooklyn! Frank Galarza Wins New York Junior Middleweight Title
By Robert Brizel, Head RCM Boxing Correspondent
Frank Galarza has been knocking at the door for a while. A year ago in September 2012, Galarza settled for an eight round draw with Alantez Fox in a bout or the vacant New York State Junior Middleweight title. Galarza, now 11-0-2, seven knockouts, Brooklyn, New York, fights for the Brooklyn downtown. In the co-main event at Resorts New World Casino at Aqueduct Raceway, in Queens, New York, on September 22, 2013, Galarza beat up on less talented Rich Neves, now 6-1-1, three knockouts, New York City, knocking him down in the third round and stopping him in the fourth. Neves has never beaten a fighter with a winning record, but he took the fight with Galarza anyway and tried to get lucky. Galarza moved forward and slowly but surely cut off the ring, landing hard power shots to the head and never looking back.
The World Boxing Association Fedelatin junior middleweight belt is available. Promoters Kevin O’Sullivan, Felipe Gomez, Wilson Naranjo and James Foley could consider this vacant belt for Galarza to go with his state belt in his next bout to get him a world ranking. The same was done for Rafael Vazquez, who won the WBA Fedelatin and New York State Super Bantamweight belts in the bout which followed Galarza.
Result: Frank Galarza TKO 4 Rich Neves, Junior Middleweights (1:44)
Galarza wins the vacant New York State Junior Middleweight title
Neves was down in the third round.
