Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. To Face Brian Vera in Comeback Mudfest on July 13th

By Robert Brizel, Real Combat Media Correspondent

New York, NY (April 26th, 2013)–In a nontitle payday middleweight comeback of sorts, Julio Chavez Jr., inactive for over six months, will return to the ring in what should prove to be an inside war mudfest against the great trial horse Brian Vera on July 13, 2013. True to form, Vera gets this big payday opportunity because he has been hot in the ring of late. Chavez Jr. should win the decision in this televised slugfest of brutality. The way Vera like to fight and slug it out on the inside, this bout could get down and dirty as Chavez goes to work on Vera, who undoubtedly will not go quietly like many others.

Chavez Jr., now 46-1-1, 32 knockouts, is still getting over the Sergio Gabriel Martinez world title loss, in which he had Martinez hurt and down in the twelfth round but could not finish him Vera, now 23-6, 14 knockouts, Fort Worth, Texas, has a most deceiving record. A loser of five of eight professional bouts between 2008 and 2011, Vera has beaten Sergio Mora twice, Taronze Washington, Serhiy Dzinziruk and Donatas Bondaravas of late, and has some big name scalps on his resume, including Sebastian Demers and Andy Lee.

Vera stands a better chance of going the distance in a 10 round affair, but probably would not make it out of a 12 rounder against the harder hitting Chavez. Both fighters will take a lot of punishment in this bout. Chavez Jr. could use a tune up like Vera to test the waters before stepping up at the higher level against Peter Quillin or in a rematch with Martinez. Brian Vera is a great fighter who gives his all and is always ‘in the house’. Vera will try to win, and will take Chavez on a one way trip to hell in the ring. Vera knows how to wins rounds better than Chavez does, but if Chavez’ fundamentals continue to improve, he will show improved techniques and style in the ring when he returns with Vera. An impressive outing of any kind will be necessary by Chavez to be able to rematch Martinez in the future, if that is what he wants. If not, Chavez Jr. will just be a big name related to a big name, his dad.
