Doel Carrasquillo Interview: I call Out Osumanu Adama!
By Robert Brizel, Real Combat Media Correspondent
Lancaster, PA (February 9th, 2013)–Light Middleweight and Middleweight trial horse Doel Carrasquillo of Puerto Rico, now fighting out of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, a veteran of 41 professional bouts, who just won a fight over Dennis Sharpe on January 31, 2013 on Staten Island, responding to the rumor Chicago Fight Promotion intended to sign Dennis Sharpe to fight Osumanu Adama instead of him, has called out Osumanu Adama and challenged him to fight the better man. In an exclusive interview with Real Combat Media, Carrasquillo issued a direct challenge to Osumanu Adama, trainer Joseph Awinongya, promoter Cynthia Tolaymat and manager Wasfi Tolaymat to match him against Adama.
Doel Carrasquillo: “I’m the winner! I just beat Dennis Sharpe. Osumanu Adama should be fighting me and not Dennis Sharpe! Adama wants to take easy fights all the time. Why is he scared of me? He doesn’t want to fight me or anybody on another level. Sharpe is 0-10 with 3 draws, and has not won a fight since 2004.”
Reader’s Note: 13 of Carrasqullo’s opponents had a combined record of 139-0-4 at the time Doel fought them. One of them, 13-0 southpaw Wayland Willingham, had his career when Doel knocked him out in the first round in 2008.
RCM: “Jorge Melendez, who has won 12 bouts in a row against fighters with records like 3-1-1 and 0-10, just turned down a rematch offer with you at Turning Stone Casino next month. Osumanu Adama was supposed to fight Gregorz Proksa on the same card.
Doel Carrasquillo: “Melendez don’t fight nobody. I knocked him out in five rounds in Puerto Rico in 2009. He showed up overweight at the time. No matter what, I knocked him out. Fighters like Melendez and Adama have promotional people getting (them) easy fights and giving them money. Adama wants to take easy fights all the time. He doesn’t want to fight me or anybody on another level. I call out Osumanu Adama!”
RCM: “Are you calling out Osumanu Adama?”
Doel Carrasquillo: “I call out Osumanu Adama! I just beat Dennis Sharpe, so Adama should be fighting me! I will knock Adama in the sixth round. Adama has been out of the ring a year, he’s one of these guys who doesn’t don’t know what he wants to do with his life. I push these guys like they’ve never get pushed before. When he get punched one time by me, he won’t want to be there anymore. I’ll knock him out in six rounds. I’ll win the rounds before that by pushing forward and applying pressure. He can’t run too much. Adama is going to get hit no matter what. I gotta take his punch-but he gotta take mine. I think my power is too much for Adama.”
RCM: “What would you do if you had a rematch with Jorge Melendez or got the chance to fight Osumanu Adama?”
Doel Carrasquillo: “I’ll knock the guys out. That’s the only way I fight!”
RCM: “Doel, besides Jorge Melendez, you have exposed fading contenders and rising pretenders such as Shamone Alvarez and Denis Douglin. Last year you lost five separate eight rounders to the best rising stars and contenders at 154 pounds, before you beat up Dennis Sharpe. You might have actually won those fights but got robbed again and again.”
Doel Carrasquillo: ” Those were close fights. I had to fight the guys and they ran away. I had to fight to a decision. Nobody (the judges) helps me out.”
RCM: “Tell about some of the more memorable bouts you have fought.”
Doel Carrasquillo: “Mike Arnoutis fought a good ten round fight with me. To me I beat the guy, but they (the judges) said I lost the fight. Two judges had it 96-94. It could have been a draw or I won. I was hurt in sparring for Mike Jones, I took the fight anyway, but to me I never fought Mike Jones. The bout with Mike Jones was stopped when Jones hit me where I was injured (my nose), and I couldn’t continue.”
RCM: “Who else?”
Doel Carrasquillo: “I knew Shamone Alvarez could not take my punch. he started to punch, and he (eventually) made a mistake, and gave me an opportunity to land a shot. Alex Pedrez is a good fighter. I hit him with an overhand left and dropped him. Demetrius Hopkins showed up for my fight overweight and took a penalty. Jamaal Davis fought a smart fight with me. Davis held good, moved, ran and took my shots. I give credit to that guy. I took the rematch with Kenny Abril at the last minute, and he spent the fight running away. Kevin Bizier dropped me with a good body shot in the final round of our bout in Canada. I got up and finished the bout.”
RCM: “Thought your record is deceiving, why do you think so many professional fighters are afraid of you?”
Doel Carrasquillo: “Why is Jorge Melendez afraid of me? Why is Osumanu Adama scared of me? I have a record of 17-23-1. They are afraid of me because I punch with power, have fought the best and have exposed the worst. I’m 39 years old. Show me the money. I’ll fight anyone! 154, 155, 156, 157, 158, 159, 160. Show me the money.”
RCM: “Doel, what is your final word to Osumanu Adama?”
Doel Carrasquillo: “I call out Osumanu Adama! I will knock out Osumanu Adama in the sixth round. And I will send him home to Ghana.”
