FUTURE BOXING STAR IN THE MAKING

6 Time US Amatuer Flyweight Champion !

By: Tommy Dangerously

Hey boxing fanatics, this is Tommy Dangerously with my new Future Star segment and I’m here to lace you all up on the new faces in boxing. Today, I’m showcasing a certain father and son team who are becoming hugely successful. Only 16 years’ old and is the 6 Time national 108 Flyweight Champion, Carlos “The Magician” Suarez from Lima, Ohio and believe me fellas he aint’ nothing nice! The kids got skills, so much that he can lend you some! So pay attention and learn about it…

TD: So do you have any nickname or moniker you go by or like to be called in the ring that best describes you?
CS: “The Magician,” cause once during a sparring session a trainer told me, “ I can’t be hit, I’m like a Magician!”
TD: Word I can dig that…

TD: Growing up as a young buck, who did you like or most admired in boxing?
CS: Fernando Vargas and Prince Naseem, he was nice!
TD: yeah, you got good taste..

TD: Champion material what does this mean to you?
CS: A state of mind being the best in the world, nobody better.

TD: Okay, Okay..
TD: So is this something you’ve wanted for a long time or is it just something you’re doing and happen to be good at?
CS: Something I’ve wanted since I was 8 years old.

TD: Tell me, Oscar De La Hoya what does he mean to you being a Mexican American fighter yourself?
CS: Oscar is great, an Icon. I respect him as a former pro and a current promoter.
TD: Well said.

TD: What do you do to prepare yourself for a big fight, any kind of special ritual you do like wear miss matched socks or anything like that?
CS: Nope. Just stay focused like any other day.

TD: Where do you see yourself in five years time and does boxing have anything to do with your future plans?
CS: Yes Boxing is my life and I see myself as Champion in two weight classes’.
TD: Hey, I can dig it! Sounds good to me.

TD: Okay, I got one more for you. Say if I threw you in with the wolves’ todays Champion right now at 108 Jr. Flyweight Ulises “Archie” Solis, what would happen?
CS: I’d box circles around Archie in a four rounder lol! I need to work up them Championship rounds but I deffinatley belong..
TD: hahah! Hey Carlos from what I see I’d have to agree. It’s been a pleasure I wish you well and I hope you make big waves in the boxing community!
CS: Thanks a lot anytime.

TD: OKAY dad, “Joe Suarez” it’s your turn now. So, why boxing? Is it merely a tradition in a boxing family or something to teach Carlos morals?
JS: No not really, Carlos would try to imitate boxers and shadowbox when he was only 7 years old while we watched fights so we took him to the boxing gym. He loved it right away.

TD: Are you ever scared for him as a parent seeing him in the ring fighting?
JS: Yes of course, I was at first, but then I saw how tuff he was and the fears subsided. Then when he moved up in weight and age, I wondered how he’d do and once he made it to the semi-final at the golden gloves I knew where he stands.

TD: Do you consider yourself a strict parent or easy going?
JS: Sometimes I’m strict but then say to myself,  “maybe 2 strict” so I ease off because being a parent is hard.

TD: Okay Oscar De La Hoya  or Julio Caesar Chavez?
JS: Oh! Tough-one. I say Oscar, I only saw the tail end of Julio’s career.

TD: Where do you see your son in 5 years?
JS: I see him as a World Champion. Not because I’m his dad I Know, a lot of dads think that they’re kids are the best? He’s the total package. His boxing acumen, his ring intelligence is that high. He is a counter puncher, a slick stylist, I mean today you can see a lot of guys imitate Floyd Mayweather Jr. but Carlos is actually one who can fight using that style of defense and has the ring vision to do so. He’s special.

TD: Okay, say your son had the chance today to spar and help a champion prepare for his next championship fight guys like Hugo Cazares or Nonito Donaire would you sign the weaver/release of consent?
JS: I think it’s great if he can get in there with World Champions of his weight, he’s already sparred a lot of tough guys like Vernon Paris for example.
TD: Wow that is impressive for a 16 year old.

TD: SO tell me about Lima, Ohio is it a boxing town or a pro Mexican environment?
JS: Not really it’s 70% Black community 28% White and 2% other.
TD: Hey I’m from Tacoma I know what you’re talking about, to a tee.

TD: Well, thanks a lot Joe it really means a lot to us at Real Combat Media.com
JS: No problem thank you Tommy.

This father and son duo have done great up to this point with many achievements:

  • Augusta Classic National Champion
  • Four time Ringside World Champion
  • National Jr Golden gloves Champion-Title National Champion
  • Under 19 National Champion-Silver gloves Champion
  • Three time Arnold National Classic Winner…

The two just recently got back from Trinidad and Tobago where the young Carlos won the Light Flyweight Title by outclassing Arshad Fabien Trinidad Express Newspaper reports. I just think the explosiveness that Carlos brings to the table at this young an age should be celebrated and his intelligence makes him a very sturdy man among boys.

It’s no wonder he refers to himself as the Magician, because he’s magically appearing more and more relevant in the boxing community taking it by storm. These are good people. Joe is a local businessman in Lima and is very much the family man and will do whatever it takes to help his son succeed in his dreams. He has the ambition to become World Champion of the World one day.

I think it’s about time that we as fans should be privileged to learn about this dynamic father and son team. So tell a friend, tell your family, send a telegram, propagate word of mouth for this is the strongest form of advertising. Carlos “The Magician” Suarez is a Future Star in the making.

This is Tommy Dangerously signing out until next time boxing fanatics.
