Keep The Puppies on the Porch!

March 16th, 2012 at the Morongo Casino & Resorts in Cabazon, Ca ESPN2 Friday Night Fights Main Event Kendall “Rated “R” Holt fought Tim “Pit Bull” Coleman. In this much anticipated fight both had trouble finding trainers to work their respective corners so there looked to be a bit more tense than usual. But by fight time both corners were filled with trainers to shout out instructions.
Although Superstar Roy Jones Jr. working in Holt’s corner was a very big surprise to everyone in attendance in this very important bout in what was very much a do or die fight. To be honest Holt didn’t even seem to lather up a sweat making this a very brief & quick outing. The fight was more interesting in the pre-fight build up then the actual fight itself, both guys looking mean and ready and both came in ready to attack!
Round one was very much up for grabs in the first minute or so. Tim Coleman asserted his jab and Kendall Holt move with excellent footwork waiting to counter. It appeared to be more of a Holt round and then with 25 seconds left, Holt lands a picture perfect left hook to the body making a sound heard throughout the auditorium. He immediately dropped Coleman to his knees, obviously in pain! It was the ESPN2’s FNF “Punch of the Night” the other 3 knock downs were more mental than killer shots and taking nothing away from the victor but Tim Coleman wanted out in the worst way.
Was it that future Hall of Fame-er Roy Jones Jr. was in his evil foes corner, or was it de ja vue from his last outing with Vernon Paris? He appeared to have shell shocked and was out to lunch temporarily and with Rated “R” coming full steam going for the stoppage. He jumped on the canvas; the fight was completely sucked from his veins all his manhood shriveled up completely. Kendall Holt was obviously more than he can handle. As an avid Pit Bull owner and lover of the breed, I saw nothing even remotely close to that temperament in Tim Coleman or his performance tonight. Probably the best moment that signifies this win was when, Kendall barrowed a page out of fellow Patterson NJ native Victor Cruz playbook in the Championship End zone “Salsa” dance, Get down Rated “R” you deserve it!
When asked about how much an impact RJJ had in his corner, he mentioned that he showed up immediately the night before to his hotel room not only telling him the ins’ and outs of the boxing business but also telling the 30 year old Holt about himself and what he saw in him. “He spoke to my mental and got inside my head” replied Holt and when asked what weight he’s much rather campaign at he replied 140 Jr. Welter. Because of the many more opportunities it provides.
Well folks it looks like this New Jersey native has fought back and extended his boxing career once again proving he is worth the hype and applause. In one of the sport of boxing true heart felt stories tonight is proof that Kendall Holt the student, father & prize fighter continues to write his own future, go get-em champ! Ok boxing fanatics until next time this is Tommy Dangerously singing off.
