Osumanu Adama Versus Jose Medina Ten Round Middleweight Dream Fight
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Chicago, IL (July 28th, 2013)–Chicago area Middleweight contender Osumanu Adama defeated Pennsylvania’s Doel Carrasquillo by seventh round stoppage in a scheduled eight rounder on July 26, 2013, at Cicero Stadium in Cicero, Illinois in the main event. Adama, now 22-3, 16 knockouts, Joliet, Illinois by way of Accra, Ghana, was unsuccessful in his first world title opportunity against International Boxing Federation World Middleweight champion Daniel Geale, losing a close 12 round decision to Geale in Tasmania, Australia, on March 7, 2012/ Adama was then inactive for over a year before fighting Carrasquillo, a well-known journeyman who normally fights between 147 and 154 pounds who was out of his weight class with Adama.
Adama is ready for a more serious step fight at 12 rounds in the Fall of 2013. What better person to challenge Adama than tested and test middleweight veteran Jose ‘Stinger’ Medina of Mexico?
Medina, now 18-13-2 with seven knockouts, is coming off an impressive decision win over former contender Allen Conyers. Medina’s record includes a ten round decision win over 14-0 middleweight prospect Chris Fitzpatrick, and a draw with Canadian middleweight contender Joachim Alcine-who beat highly regarded David Lemieux in his next fight.
Fighting out of New Hampshire, the Guadalajara born Medina is a rugged in fighter who comes forward and tears at the body with power shots, mixes jabs and hooks, and tangles up his opponents in holds without letting them get inside. The challenge for Adama will be to box Medina from the outside and not wind up in Medina’s ‘telephone booth’ which turns his bouts into inside wars. Ultimately, Adama might be forced to trade toe-to-toe with Medina and wrestle with him for hand and foot position, an awkward circumstance.
If Adama cannot keep Medina away, Adama would be forced into a close range fight. Adama is a busier and accurate fighter. Medina is a good counterpuncher, and clever in the way he mixes his punches and then holds.
Universal Boxing Federation Midwest representative Rich Spilatro of Chicago could make a 12 round bout between Adama and Medina interesting by putting the vacant UBF World Middleweight championship belt on the table, creating an interesting Chicago Fight Promotion main event. In any case, Adama’s next bout will have to be a step up bout, and Medina is the perfect challenger.
Adama would find it challenging to outbox the gutsy Medina from the outside over 12 rounds, as Medina has sufficient skills to get inside on Adama-no matter what Adama does-and will go the distance. Medina would try to get inside on Adama to win their encounter, if given any opportunities to fight the bout in a telephone booth. After losing to Daniel Geale, Osumanu Adama still needs to prove he can win at the 12 round championship distance, and the UBF world title belt and Medina offer the perfect opportunity, either at Cicero Stadium in Cicero, Illinois, or at Accra Sports Stadium in Accra, Ghana.
