BROOKLYN – September 3, 2025 – Philadelphia boxing great, the former two-division world champion Danny “Swift” Garcia, will return to the ring at the friendly confines of Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday, October 18 in a “FAREWELL TO BROOKLYN” event celebrating the fans and arena that have supported Garcia throughout his storied history of delivering memorable moments over the course of his career.
Garcia will headline a Swift Promotions event in a 10-round super welterweight tilt against Queens-native Daniel “El Gallo” Gonzalez. A fan-favorite at the premier East Coast boxing venue, Garcia will step into the ring for his record 10th fight at Barclays Center, dating back to him headlining the first-ever boxing event at the arena in 2012.
“The fans have supported me the whole way since I first fought here and have made Brooklyn feel like my home outside of Philly,” said Garcia. “There’s nothing like a big fight night at Barclays Center. I had to do this show for the fans and show them how much I’ve appreciated them this entire time. The best way to say goodbye is by fighting here one last time and giving them a tremendous night of boxing full of rising young talent. It’s gonna be the DSG show in Brooklyn once again on October 18!”
“We are honored to once again host Danny Garcia and it has been a privilege to witness his career milestones unfold in our arena over the past decade,” said Laurie Jacoby, Executive Vice President and Chief Entertainment Officer at Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment (BSE), parent company of Barclays Center. “Boxing has long been part of Brooklyn’s cultural identity and is an integral part of our diverse programming at Barclays Center, and hosting this historic night not only celebrates Danny’s legacy but also reaffirms our commitment to bringing world-class events to the borough.”
Garcia has amassed a 7-2 record throughout his nine fights at Barclays Center, including a signature victory over Lamont Peterson in a 2015 battle of champions. Throughout his impressive run he’s competed in four world title fights at the venue, delivered three knockouts and defeated legendary Brooklyn fighters Zab Judah and Paulie Malignaggi.
A loaded lineup of undercard matchups will be announced in the coming weeks leading up to fight night. **MEDIA CAN APPLY FOR CREDENTIALS AT WWW.SWANSONPR.COM/CREDENTIALS**

A world champion at 140 and 147 pounds, García (37-4, 21 KOs) owns one of the sport’s most impressive resumes, having faced 14 world champions throughout his stellar career. The Philadelphia native has proudly represented his Puerto Rican heritage throughout a career that featured a run through the super lightweight division that saw him defeat a string of champions including Erik Morales, Amir Khan, Zab Judah, Lucas Matthysse, Nate Campbell and Kendall Holt. As a welterweight, he added triumphs over Lamont Peterson, Paulie Malignaggi, and Robert Guerrero, defeating Guerrero for a vacant title in 2016. García’s campaign at welterweight included narrow defeats to some of the sport’s most talented and rugged fighters in Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, and then unbeaten unified champion Errol Spence Jr. On October 18, Garcia makes it an even 10 fights at Barclays Center since he opened the venue for boxing with a fourth-round knockout of Mexican legend Erik Morales in 2012.
“I’m expecting Gonzalez to come with everything he’s got and prepared to give the fans a great fight,” said Garcia. “I know he’s gonna be motivated being a local guy fighting on a big stage, but I’m also super motivated to show out for these fans on October 18. This should be fireworks, but no matter what, I’m planning to have my hand raised.”
Gonzalez (22-4-1, 7 KOs) will look to make it a three-bout winning streak and score the biggest victory of his career when he steps into the ring on October 18. Fighting out of the Woodhaven neighborhood in Queens, Gonzalez earned two triumphs in 2024, earning unanimous decisions over Keane McMahon in February and Michael Anderson in October, the ladder of which earned him the IBF USBA Welterweight strap. The 35-year-old fought former world champion Chris Algieri to a tough decision in 2019 and has also gone up against veteran contender Danny O’Connor and challenged top contender Petros Ananyan in a 2021 matchup at Barclays Center.
“I’ve been grinding in silence, locked in that gym and waiting on my shot,” said Gonzalez. “Now it’s here. I’m stepping into the ring with a future Hall of Famer in Danny Garcia at Barclays Center. I ain’t coming to just show up, I’m coming to shock the world and prove how great I am. Life’s about timing, and on October 18, it’s ‘Gallo’ time.”
Swift Promotions will put on their biggest event to date as they deliver the return of Danny “Swift” Garcia to the venue he’s made a home away from home for over a decade. “Swift” fight nights in Brooklyn have delivered some of Barclays Center’s most memorable nights and will surely provide an electric atmosphere once again on October 18. In addition to the in-arena experience, Swift Promotions will be announcing a deal to offer the exciting card to fans around the country. |
