Plant City, Florida (August 17, 2025)–  In his first ring appearance in 10 months at ProBox Event Center in Plant City, Florida, world-class southpaw featherweight Gary Antonio Russell, 21-1 with 13 knockouts, Washington, District of Columbia, won an easy unanimous eight-round decision over an outmatched Dervin Rodriguez, 11-3-1 with eight knockouts, Bogota, Colombia.

Rodriguez came forward with pressure and tried to take the bout into a telephone booth, with Russell landing frequent pinpoint counters when Rodriguez tried to barge inside. The bout featured frequent clinches and wrestling, with jockeying for front foot position. Short punches worked best for Russell, with Rodriguez’ wild style featured swinging wildly. Russell landed frequent jabs in center ring. Russell preferred to land a punch or two and hold. Rodriguez did not show the more experienced Russell anything which Russell had not seen before.

Russell is ranked second in the world among super bantamweights by the World Boxing  Association and has his sights set next on 26-2 former world title challenger Ramon Cardenas.
