Zhilei Zhang Stops Joe Joyce Again in London

London, UK (September 24th, 2023)– Promoter Frank Warren (Queensberry Promotions) presented in the Main Event the rematch between 2008 Olympic Silver Medalist and current WBO Interim Heavyweight champion and former 2016 Olympic Silver Medalist and the WBO Interim Heavyweight champion Zhilei Zhang stopped Joe ‘Juggernaut’ Joyce again this time at 3:07 of the third round.
In the Main Event in a rematch WBO Interim Heavy champ southpaw Zhilei ‘Bang Bang’ Zhang, 26-1-1 (21), #287 ¼, of Zhokou, China and Bloomfield, NJ, stopped Joe ‘Juggernaut’ Joyce, 15-2 (14), #281 ¼, of Putney, London, UK, at 3:07 of the third round of a scheduled 12 rounds.
In the first round neither boxer landed anything but a jab. In the second rounds halfway point Zhang rocked Joyce with a lead left on the chin. In the final 30 seconds Joyce landed a combination to the chin of Zhang In the final seconds Zhang rocked Joyce with a left on the chin. He struggled to get up in no condition to continue when Referee Steve Gray wisely waved it off.
WBC Int’l Silver Super Lightweight champion Pierce ‘Big Bang’ O’Leary, 13-0 (7), #139 ½, of Dublin, IRE, defeated Kane ‘Sugar Kane’ Gardner, 16-3 (7), #139 ¼, of Beswick, Lancashire, UK, over 10 rounds. In the fifth round O’Leary was cut over the left eye. Scores were 100-90 and 99-92 twice.
