Los Angeles, CA (February 16th, 2021)–  A date of February 2021 was announced as his passing, though details were not immediately provided. Freddie Roach trained tattooed Jewish welterweight fighter Zachary Wohlman, better known by his professional name Kid Yamaka, has died at age 32. The cause of death was not immediately disclosed.

Wohlman trained at the Wildcard Boxing Gym in Hollywood, California, and was trained by Freddie Roach and Eric Brown. Wohlman, a religious Jewish fighter who observed the Sabbath and wore the Star of David, grew up fighting amateur bouts in Mexico. The then unknown Wohlman came from nowhere under Freddie Roach’s tutelage as an amateur to shockingly win the 2010 Los Angeles Golden Gloves tournament. However, Wohlman’s subsequent career as a professional in four and six round professional bouts was disappointing. His professional record between 2011 and 2017 was 10-3-2 with two knockouts.

Roach paid tribute to Wohlman on Instagram on Sunday, February 14, 2021, stating “(I am) so deeply saddened with the passing of a very loved member of our Wild Card Boxing family, friend (and) brother Zachary “Kid Yamaka” Wohlman. Love and support to the Wohlman family, and to all affected. We love you Zach. You will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace.”
