Wheeled Warriors: The next big thing in combat sports.
By: Jon Campbell
I have recently had the privilege to speak to the mastermind behind this brand new operation who is ready to take the world by storm, Col Wood. Col is the creator, manager and promoter of SportsTechDSC, a charitable association which uses unique technology which allows combat sports to be brought to the physically challenged members of of out society for the first time. A number of important figures including Real Combat Media and other promotional bodies have come together to ensure this is legalized and now ready to be introduced nationally and globally.
“I now say with great pleasure that I am in talks with a UK MMA organization. More on that will unfold as it means now in UK and Europe we will be able to lay on Wheeled Warrior Shows in with able stars whether in amateur or professional mma organizations.” – Col Wood.
The vision behind this entrepreneurial genius is to see fighters across the world competing in such events when the next Olympics come around in 2016. By that time he wishes for concrete and solid infrastructure to be in place to allow anybody who is willing to get involved and compete in a sport which has up to now eluded them.
Mr. Wood’s objective is simple. For years now athletes have been able to take part in sports which their conditions would previously have rendered them unable to. These people have just as much rights to sporting participation that any of us and Col firmly believes combat sports should be no different. His goal is to spread this idea worldwide.
There are two sides to such an idea; firstly there is the side in which people who are physically challenged are allowed to compete against fully able-bodied people in fair and competitive contest. This has already occurred, as one of his fighters Matt Betzhold from Arizona, an amputee, took part in a MMA bout winning by 1st round submission and looked extremely impressive.
The next part of Col’s idea are competitions and fight nights which feature bouts between two competitors in wheelchairs. Something which very few though would ever thought possible, but Col Wood is making this happen. These events are massively exciting and promise to take the world of combat sports by storm due to their inspirational and unique nature.
Wheeled Warriors has an upcoming announcement on August 18th with Carl Lee of the UCFC Fight Night to make the new sport legal . For any further information with regards to this great revolutionary addition to the world of combat sports, please feel free to contact Col Wood . His email address is [email protected].
