WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO VS. JEAN-MARC MORMECK “WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW”
Dr. Steelhammer Set to Defend Heavyweight Crown Against Jean-Marc Mormeck
It’s been an exciting couple of weeks for the brothers Klitschko. The escapades surrounding the fight between Vitali Klitschko and David Chisora have been well covered and will not be rehashed here. Suffice it to say that this weekend is back to business as Wladimir ‘Dr. Steelhammer’ Klitschko (56-3-0 49KO) defends the undisputed heavyweight championship against Jean-Marc ‘The Marksman’ Mormeck (36-4-0 22KO) this Saturday at ESPRIT arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.
Wlad Sits Atop the Division
Coming off of his one sided domination of David Haye this past summer, Wladimir has not lost a fight in eight years. He has a safety first style that bores many fans, but one can’t argue with the results that he and head trainer Manny Steward have produced over the last decade. He possesses a fast and accurate jab, a sledgehammer straight right, and a quick left hook. Despite his caution he has real one punch knockout power as demonstrated in his wins against Eddie Chambers and Ray Austin. At 6’7″ tall, he uses every inch of his height and reach to control the range, using his long jab to setup his right, and not allowing his opponents to fight him on the inside. Wladimir has a chance to reach a personal milestone in the fight should he win by knockout; it would be his 50th knockout victory.
Mormeck’s Shot at Heavyweight Glory
One of the best fighters to come out of France, Mormeck looks to make the most of his shot. In comments leading up to the fight he’s called out Wlad for having a glass jaw and said that he will go after him from the opening bell. This fight will be Mormeck’s fourth at heavyweight. A standout in the cruiserweight division, he holds notable wins over O’Neill Bell and Wayne Brathwaite though he did lose his last fight in the division to David Haye. Mormeck has won all three of his heavyweight fights and looks to continue his winning ways.
The Fight
Wladimir will control the range of the fight with his jab as he typically does. Mormeck will hope to land a big lucky punch early. Wlad will work his jab to establish his range and timing and, once he finds success it’s only a matter of time until he launches the right. If Mormeck can solve the puzzle that is Wladimir’s jab he may be able to make it into the mid or late rounds. If Wladimir finds that Mormeck can’t hit or hurt him then it may be a short night.
A Good Big Man vs. a Good Little Man
If a good big man beats a good little man, as the old adage goes, then what happens when an elite big man faces a good little man? At fours years older, eight inches shorter, 30 pounds smaller, and with a skills deficit too large to quantify, Jean-Marc Mormeck is at a disadvantage which he will not be able to overcome. Look for Wladimir to win by knockout inside four rounds. Although Mormeck is a limited opponent, Wladimir wants to make a statement in this fight.
