Colorful Boxing Promoter Johnny Bos Found Dead in Florida

Clearwater, FL (May 14th, 2013)– Onetime flamboyant Brooklyn boxing promoter Johnny Bos, whose big mouth, eye for talent, flamboyant character and colorful personality led to local discovery and promotion of some of boxing’s biggest names in recent years, died of congestive heart failure at age 61 in his home in Clearwater, Florida, Saturday, May 11, 2013.
Bos was known for handshake agreements rather than contracts with the fighters he associated himself with, which of course led Bos to losing his fighters-once others approached them and signed them with paperwork containing financial guarantees.
Fighters Bos helped discover and nurture to stardom include Gerry Cooney, Mike Tyson, Paulie Malignaggi, Yuri Foreman, Jameel McCline, Joey Gamache and others. Johnny Bos moved to Florida in 2008. Johnny is survived by his brother, Jeffrey Bosdal, who discovered his brother’s body too late, when he went to visit his brother with his fiancee at Johnny’s Clearwater home on Sunday, May 12, 2013.
